he Highfield Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (RQF) is designed for individuals who want to develop the professional skills and recognised qualification required to assess learners within vocational education and training.

Ideal for trainers, tutors and professionals who assess practical skills, knowledge and understanding, the qualification prepares learners to plan assessments, select appropriate assessment methods, make fair and reliable assessment decisions, provide constructive feedback, maintain assessment records and work within relevant quality assurance, legal and professional requirements. 

This qualification is for anyone who assesses vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in a training environment rather than a live workplace, for example a classroom, workshop, or simulated practical space. It is particularly suited to health and social care trainers who want to formally assess their own learners.

•     New trainers and tutors who want to add a recognised assessing qualification alongside their teaching role.

•     Experienced trainers who assess learners informally already, and want that skill formally recognised.

•     Anyone considering a move into an assessor role within vocational or health and social care training.

The course is made up of two units, covering both the theory and the real practice of assessment.

•     Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment: the theory behind fair, valid and reliable assessment, different assessment methods, planning, decision making, quality assurance, and the legal framework you need to know.

•     Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding: putting that theory into practice, planning, carrying out and recording real assessments of your own learners, with your own assessor supporting you along the way.

This course runs live online over Zoom, three sessions a week, two hours each, so you can complete the full qualification in around 11 weeks. Short pre reading and activities on our Virtual Learning Environment prepare you for each live session, so class time is used for discussion, practice and real application rather than one way lectures.
